Women's Empowerment and Advancement
We build the capacity of women’s groups in Stepping Stones and Reflect (STAR) Circles to demand their rights in an active but non-violent manner, and create a knowledge base on rights and strengthen local lobbying advocacy trajectories. We also raise awareness amongst police officers, local court officials and local opinion leaders on women’s rights and facilitate dialogue with STAR circle groups in pursuit of a minimum change agenda/behavioural change agenda in the local courts and police stations in the project areas. We develop best practices manual (using pro-poor and pro-women’s models) for the police and local courts to help them to be responsive to the needs of women and the poor. We have provided access to micro finance service and other economic resources and delivered training in basic business skills and income generating activities which promote group cohesion and savings based on the village lending and savings skills.
We also popularize the Gender Act of Sierra Leone which addresses the problem of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) and its dehumanizing brunt on women. Active listening skill methodology was used in three month to propagate the three gender act in Pujehun district.
